PT878GC Ultrasonic Gas Flowmeter

The Panametrics PT878GC now brings all of the benefits of clamp-on transit time flow measurement to gas applications. Until recentley this was not possible as existing methods could not work on gas flows in metal pipes. The PT878GC works with gases and high or low pressures and in pipes of varied construction including all metals and most plastics. It is especially useful for metering corrosive, erosive, sterile or high-purity gases, or in any application where penetrating the wall of the pipe is not desirable.

As there is no tapping or cutting of the pipe, installation and maintenance costs are greatly reduced. The PT878GC has no wetted or moving parts, causes no loss of pressure and has an extremely wide rangeablility. It has been tested thoroughly on metal pipes with diameters ranging from 0.75 to 24 inches, and it is suitable for measuring the flow of any gas.

The difficulty in transmitting an ultrasonic signal through a metal pipe wall, through a gas and then back again through the wall of the pipe to a second transducer prevented the development of effective ultrasonic gas flowmeters for many years. In ultrasonic gas applications using traditional transducers only 4.9 x10–7 percent of the sound energy transmitted from the first transducer is recieved by the second. Which isn't enough to give reliable measurements. The latest clamp-on transducer technology utilised in the PT878GC produces signals that are 5 to 10 times more powerful than traditional transducers, producing clean coded signals with minimal background noise.

The large LCD screen presents data in both alphanumeric and graphic forms. It also makes programming easier with a software menu that walks the user through function selection and data entry. Standard alphanumeric functions include totalised flow, flow velocity and mass or volumetric flow. Both real time and logged data can be viewed in graphic mode which is very useful for reviewing data and observing trends in the field.

The lightweight construction, compact size, rechargeable battery pack and universal power adapter make this the ideal go-anywhere gas flow meter.
